AESI Named As Finalist For Washington County Business Awards Second Year In A Row Firm Receives Honor MEDIA RELEASE Contact: Fred Teeter, Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce, 301-739-2015, ext. 102 Tim Troxell, Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission, 240-313-2280 For Immediate Release: ANNUAL WASHINGTON COUNTY BUSINESS AWARDS BANQUET MARCH 3rd, Tops in Business Community to be Recognized, Chamber Joins With EDC For 5th Awards Banquet "CAPITOL STEPS" TO PERFORM (Hagerstown, MD Feb. 10, 2004) -- The Annual Washington County Business Awards Banquet is scheduled for Wednesday March 3, 2004 at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center at Antietam Creek in Hagerstown. The co-producers of the event are the Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Commission. According to Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce Chairman of the Board Tim Henry, "This fifth annual event is extremely important for our community. We urge everyone to attend what has become known as the 'Oscars' for our Washington County business leaders." The 5th annual awards banquet is an exciting joint effort of the EDC and the Chamber. EDC Chair Peggy Bushey said, "We are very proud to be celebrating the best of our business community once again with the Washington County Business Awards. It's critical that our involved and committed business organizations recognize the outstanding companies in our county. It's part of what makes Washington County such a great place to live, work and play." According to Hagerstown-Washington County Chamber of Commerce President Fred Teeter, "We have been working on this special event for quite a long time, we received hundreds of nominations, and our judges have reviewed all the final nominations for the seven award categories. A great selection of finalists are vying for the top award in their categories." The Chamber's Business and Community Development Committee has been helping bring the event together. Volunteers from businesses throughout the community have been working on various parts of the awards celebration. "Many people have been volunteering for months on this great event. A lot of thanks goes out to David Abeles of Wachovia Securities (the awards sub-committee chairman), Betsy De Vore of the Hagerstown-Washington County CVB, Greg Evans of Horizon Goodwill, Cindy Garland of Antietam Cable, Tim Troxell of the EDC, Tim Henry of Hagerstown Trust, and Tom Riford who will again be our MC this year. We also couldn't hold this event without significant help from some wonderful sponsors. Nominations were gathered from hundreds of local businesses and individuals. At last year's awards banquet over 425 people witnessed twenty-one finalists vie for the top awards. This year, seven winners from various business categories will be recognized. Trophies will be awarded to each of the seven winners. Finalists are all recognized with certificates. Judges include all the winners from last's years awards event. The Capitol Steps, known as "the only group in America that attempts to be funnier than the Congress," is a professional troupe of current and former Congressional staffers who monitor events and personalities on Capitol Hill, in the Oval Office, and in other centers of power and prestige around the world, and then take a humorous look at serious issues while providing a nationwide laugh for millions. Songs and skits are a big part of the Capitol Steps' worldwide routine, which is updated weekly.
