Intelsat Officially Opens its Mountainside Teleport; Governor Ehrlich Performs Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony
Associated Engineering Sciences, Inc. Praised for Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Surveying Services

(Hagerstown, MD Sept. 24, 2003) -- Hagerstown-based Associated Engineering Sciences, Inc. (AESI) has provided civil engineering design services, surveying, and structural engineering design services for the new state-of-the-art satellite communications teleport for Intelsat, which recently commenced operations near Hagerstown, Md. Called Mountainside Teleport, the 40,000 sf facility houses a data center and technical operations that will increase the company's flexibility worldwide. Further expanding its global uplink and downlink capabilities, Intelsat celebrated with AESI the opening of its Mountainside Teleport with a ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by Maryland Governor Robert Ehrlich. Local business representatives and Intelsat customers were on hand, as well as representatives from the Maryland Department of Business & Economic Development, Washington County and the City of Hagerstown. At the ribbon cutting ceremony, Associated Engineering Sciences, Inc. (AESI) was praised by Kevin Mulloy, President of Intelsat Global Services Corporation.

Mountainside Teleport Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Intelsat Global Service Corporation, which launched the world's first commercial communications satellite in 1965. This is the company's fifth commercial teleport. "Mountainside is supporting our GlobalConnex portfolio of services," said Kevin Mulloy, president of Intelsat Global Services Corporation. "We are leveraging the benefits of our global satellite network, integrating satellite transmission with a full service ground network that connects into major telecommunications hubs." Mulloy said that AESI provided valuable engineering services to allow the project to move forward.

The Mountainside Teleport was built on 55 acres in the Friendship Technology Park near Hagerstown. Designing the site, and managing a construction project from the very beginning was challenging, especially under the "Fast Track" tight schedule, and with the significant winter weather and wet spring. Among the design challenges were re-platting the site, adding utilities and constructing a new access road. The data center building and teleport antennas were completed in five months. Associated Engineering Sciences, Inc. worked closely with the Intelsat team, and also with various Washington County departments. According to Donald Burgy, Intelsat/Mountainside Teleport Project Manager, "Throughout the project, AESI has provided solid civil engineering support on the site plans, building, plats, surveys and antenna foundation design and construction."

AESI Project Manager, and civil engineer Richard Reichenbaugh said, "This has been an exciting project. We've been working on this since the year 2000, and were very pleased to see it come to fruition. We're also excited about the next planned project phases. Intelsat articulated from the beginning what the goals were for this site, what the budget would allow, and when the project had to be completed. We worked closely with a very good team." AESI provided services for not only Intelsat, but also for Allegheny Energy, which owns and is developing Friendship Technology Park. "We have provided significant engineering services, to help bring jobs and investment to this business park," Reichenbaugh said.

Intelsat, Ltd. offers telephony, corporate network, video and Internet solutions around the globe via capacity on 25 geosynchronous satellites in prime orbital locations. Customers in approximately 200 countries rely on Intelsat satellites and ground resources for quality connections, global reach and reliability. For more information, visit http://www.intelsat.com .
