AESI Contracted For Structural Designs in WV and Ohio
Pre-Cast Parking Garage and Concrete Silos

Contact: Wilford Z. Sheng, 301-797-9160

(Hagerstown, MD Feb. 19, 2003) -- Associated Engineering Sciences, Inc. has long been involved with the design of concrete and pre-cast or pre-stressed structures. In 2003, AESI continues to be active with structural engineering design. Marietta Structures Corporation has contracted with AESI for two structural engineering projects. A pre-cast design project in Akron, Ohio is taking shape. Associated Engineering Sciences, Inc. has been tasked with designing a parking garage for a client of Marietta Structures.

Additionally, AESI is involved with a structural engineering project which involves the repair of three 40-year old concrete silos. According to AESI President Wilford Sheng, "This is an interesting project near Charleston, West Virginia. Safety has become a concern for the client, and these silos need to maintain their structural integrity." The owners of the aging silos are concerned with some cracks that have appeared, and contracted with Marietta Structures, and AESI, to design an efficient and cost-effective repair solution. The silos, owned by Essroc, contain cement mix. The structures are 20-feet in diameter, and 40-feet high. Their capacity is an estimated 600-tons of cement mix per silo. AESI is designing repairs, including supporting concrete. "We anticipate the total construction to repair the silos to be far less than demolition, and construction of new silos. Including design, this project is a significant effort."

Wilford Sheng said that AESI has had a long history of working with Marietta Structures, and other pre-cast concrete companies. Designing parking garages, bridges, and other structures are AESI's expertise; in fact, the firm has designed projects in eleven states and also has designed concrete silos for construction in China. "We're very proud of our structural design capabilities. For a small engineering firm, our work is second to none."

Associated Engineering Sciences, Inc. was recently named a finalist for a Washington County Business Award, for the structural design of Western Maryland's longest county-owned bridge.
